Water temps have fallen to 48 to 52 degrees on most area lakes and the fish are starting to bite very well, I have been doing mostly Musky trips and the action is good, we are having a lot of luck with lures like Suicks, and Jakes. A lot of our fish are also coming on suckers and quick set rigs. Crappie action has picked up again...

Long- time friend Bill Radek and his son Jeff visited Jim Ellis and brothers at the cabin in Vilas County last week and had moderate fishing success despite turn-over slowing things down from recent weeks.  This 19-inch walleye was caught by Jeff Radek on Alder Lake. If you’re questioning the size of the fish, let’s give it some...

~ Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter and wife Carolyn from Anglers All, 715/682-5754 (http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following: This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay. Trout and salmon are being caught at the mouths of the Sioux and Onion rivers, as well as off of Long Island. Anglers are snagging them e...

For inexpensive and interesting entertainment, you could spend some time at a busy boat landing. Enjoy this list of boat landing related predicaments. It’s unfortunate that I have played a major role in so many of them. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Forgetting drain plugs in a boat is almost common - a tal...

Sherri, Owner of Driftless Lodge near Boscobel in Wisconsin’s great southwest, is reporting great fall colors, with hunting and fishing outstanding. The beautiful lodge and cabin is located on 160 acres and just minutes from Class 1 trout streams and the Wisconsin River. See advertisement below.  Connect with Sherri directly at lod...

The salmon are surging into rivers along the Lake Michigan shoreline and Wisconsin DNR fisheries experts are standing by to help give Mother Nature a hand during the annual spawning ritual. The last week of September saw some beautiful, warm weather. Lake surface temps climbed, conditions were prime for several species of fish and fall colors closed in on peaking. Smallmouth Bass: Very good. Smallies moved in on many lakes to feed on bait fish that moved in to shallows. X-Raps, Spinnerbaits- even glidebaits meant for muskys score...

Rising water temps have seemed to stall the fish bite a little, Customers were still reporting catching a good number of fish the last week but they did comment that the bite was a tough one. Ross's Sport Shop Guides were still putting clients on Musky, I had the pleasure to take a number of clients out the last week and we had at least one f...

Fishing on Delavan continues to be difficult compared to normal action this time of year.  The constant high pressure have the fish in a lull pattern.  There isn’t any rhyme or reason for the fish locations.  If you can find an active school, you can catch a few, but if you don’t locate one it’s a real struggle.&nbs...

Even though this should be some of the best times to fish Lake Geneva, the water temperatures have not been consistent enough to get the fish in their normal early fall patterns.  The fishing has been overall very slow. Smallmouth bass action has been very difficult.   I’ve been working the fish in the 20-25 foot depth range.&...

Steve Suman It was a good run while it lasted, but forecasts predict lower highs, lower lows, and chances for rain nearly every day this week (well, of course – it is Muskies, Inc. tournament weekend!) “Muskies are on shallow weedlines and deep drop-offs,” says Pat at Happy Hooker, “hitting bucktails, plastics, topwaters, ...

Fall colors at or near peak in northern Wisconsin   Fall colors are at or near peak this week in far northern Wisconsin and many areas are reporting some spectacular colors this year, as state forestry officials had predicted, because of excellent leaf growth from a wet spring and summer. The weather has cooperated this week with bright ...

It has been another great week to be in in Central Wisconsin. From the Pendergrass Library The ‘hatch’ would be upon us if the weather would cooperative even just a tiny bit. It’s close, but it isn’t quite here. Typically we should have had a string of hot, humid days well before July, days with enough heat to leave shirt collars sticking to the backs of your necks, and glasses of be...

From the Pendergrass Library For the trout-chasing angler the most sought after trophy next to an actual fish on the wall is ‘the photograph.’ You’ve seen the picture before, it’s of an angler - usually a guy - he’s got on his waders, the ball cap perched atop his head is askew, and he’s down on one knee. Acros...

From the Pendergrass Library Last year Santa managed to get an ice auger down my chimney for my son, and this year he followed it up with a Vexilar - a fish locator, for those who might not know. It’s an electronic gizmo with bells and whistles designed to alert the operator that a fish is approaching his hook. I’m told all good ice fi...

From the Pendergrass Library As we floundered down what should have been an easy trail, slipping and falling into the icy, melting slush, we both considered turning back. We would be soaked before even reaching our destination. And we come from a long line of outdoorsmen more accustomed to taking the easy road, so quitting wasn’t out of the ...

From the Pendergrass Library Down below the bridge I crossed the river where it was shallow, moving slowly so as not to spook any of the already rising trout, and now the nearly full moon was to my back. Away from the river the blackened shadows danced quietly in places where the moon couldn’t reach, the land yawning at the approaching night...

From the Pendergrass Library In 1995 the president of the United States was Bill Clinton, the Twin Towers of New York loomed large over that city, and a gallon of gasoline would run you about $1.35. Nineteen years can seem like a lifetime ago and still pass in the blink of an eye. I caught my first steelhead in April of that year, on my first ope...

From the Pendergrass Library Each year, when the roof begins leaking in the family room of my house, I know steelhead season is close at hand. Don’t laugh, it’s true. One would think the first order of business would be to fix the roof, but it never it is. No, now is the time to put away the ice auger and tip-ups, slide the boots into...
