~ Fishing guides Roger LaPenter and Luke Kavajecz from Anglers All, 715/682-5754 (http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following: This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay.  Rain, snow, wind, fog, sun, cold, warm – the Ashland area has experienced it all during the past few weeks, and it's been a pretty classic...

By John Luthens Obsession is a long and winding word. It is defined as a crazy compulsion. As a fisherman, I don’t care to deal in distinct definitions, choosing to live instead in the shadowed waters of rumors and lies. But the compulsion to do crazy things, of that, I am guilty as charged. It was my daughter’s 13th birthday and I wa...

It was a good start to the northern Wisconsin musky opener last week.  Quite a few nice muskies were caught with anglers reporting that they saw plenty of fish. Water temperatures remain in the mid-60 degree range but now with the recent rains this past week, water levels have risen dramatically and are at or near flood stage on some r...

If I had wrote last week’s report 8 hours later, I would have downgraded everything to poor! Thankfully bites started inching up from the pit that was last Tuesday’s cold and snow, with bites improving each day since.Perch: Good-very good. Perch seem to be turning on as lots of anglers found these fish in waters of 8-12’ weeds i...

Steve Suman Monday’s rain and mild temperatures closed out a generally pleasant Memorial Day weekend. This week looks to be warmer, with Thursday evening the next chance for rain. “Musky season opened last weekend,” says Pat at Happy Hooker, “and post spawn fish are on the move. “Work medium size lures from shallow ...

Fishing overall has been average for this time of year.  The fluctuating air and water temps has been a challenge.  The best bite on the lake remains smallmouth bass. Hopefully with some stable weather and warm days, it will create some really good fishing in the coming weeks. Smallmouth bass are being caught around their spawning flats....

The shallows on Delavan Lake have been inundated with the worst green slime I’ve seen in years.  Fishing the shallow weeds has proven to be a very challenging endeavor.  If you can remove the weeds after nearly every cast, the fish are there, but be prepared for a hassle. Largemouth bass are in the shallows in 5-8 ft of water. ...

Despite having to fish between some nasty weather fishing was pretty good over the weekend, I had the pleasure to take a couple of families out last weekend with younger children and had a blast. We were targeting Walleye and Crappie. Because the children were younger we went tried to simplify the fishing by using slip bobbers and live bait. We wer...

It has been a crazy week in central Wisconsin with temperatures starting out near 80 and then plummeting down into the upper 20’s. With that said it has caused quite a stir in the fishing world. Hunting on the other hand couldn’t be better. Turkey hunters had a great week for hunting with cool conditions and plenty of birds.&nb...

Steve Suman According to current forecasts, this week starts out wet and cool (lows in the low 30s), with mild temperatures and a few rain showers to follow. Despite waking up to snow on the ground (5/19) and cold winds, mild temps look to return by the weekend. It just seems like a long way off when you are sitting in a boat now!The past few days of wind and cold temps have slowed fishing, pushing some species out of the shallows. Lake Geneva fishing is starting to improve.  By Memorial Day it should be getting very good.  The current water temperature is about 55 degrees so the fish are still a bit sluggish but with warmer weather the bite will improve every day. Smallmouth bass are still in pre-spawn.  They are cruising their spawning flats in 8-12 ft of wa...

Delavan lake has been relatively slow for this time of year.  The warm weather during the day has been great, but the nights have remained cool slowing the bite a bit.  There has been extreme weed growth by north shore and by the dam. Largemouth bass has been best in 5-6 ft of water in front of Lake Lawn Lodge.   You can either...

By John Luthens Come the month of May, my yard is prone to dandelions and violets. They are hardworking and wonderful gardeners, edging their shrubs just so, mulching in the right places and manicuring their grass until it looks li...
