Ashland Area Fishing Report for Oct. 17, 2014

~ Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter and wife Carolyn from Anglers All715/682-5754(http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following:

This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay.  The walleye are starting to transition, moving into shallow waters.  People are hooking walleye as well as northern pike in the deeper weeds off the rock pile and the channel ledges.

Smallmouth bass fishing is really great right now with anglers getting in on that classic fall bite.  The smallies are into their fall feeding patterns, frequenting their usual haunts such as the rock pile and breakwall.  They are also being caught out towards Brush Point and Long Island.

Coho salmon still are not out in large numbers, but they are starting to show up as the water temperatures cool down.  The steelhead action is happening late in the day and should only get better as fall progresses.

For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give us a call at Anglers All and we will keep you informed!

~ The Ashland Area Chamber of Commercewww.visitashland.com1-800-284-9484, reports:

Fishing is always a thrilling adventure in the Ashland area!  Chequamegon Bay is famous for its world-class smallmouth bass fishing.

The 3rd annual Chick-uamegon, a lighthearted women’s 5K/10K walk/run and 20-mile bike race, offers terrific prizes and cute awards. Where else can you see happy, smiling runners wearing pastel-colored tutus, glitter face paint, pink wigs and butterfly wings?

Chick-uamegon participants are advised to come dressed to win in their most “bling” attire for this exciting and colorful event set for Saturday, Nov. 8. Finishers each receive a tiara and medal, plus there will be prizes for the top three participants wearing the most outlandish “bling” outfits imaginable.

New this year is the added challenge of a 20-mile bike race through the surrounding countryside, which will start at 9:30 a.m. The 5K and 10K run/walk steps off at 11 a.m. at Ashland’s Lake Superior Elementary School. For more information on Chick-uamegon or to register, visit www.chick-uamegon.com.
