10/28/14 Minocqua Area Fishing Report

Lots of different weather as of late and because of  these daily changes, patterns have been hard to set up.

Musky:  Very good-good.  Daily action  is changing with the  weather.  Fish are not as active for the most part (though) one group of Boulder Junction anglers did report a 5 fish day),but, some nice fish have been brought to the net,  including a 50”+ Musky from the Turtle Flambeau Flowage.  Suckers have had the most success of late, though glide baits and jerk baits are still productive.

Pike:  Good.  Few anglers are targeting pike.  Most catches are from musky anglers casting smaller twitch baits and glide baits.

Smallmouth:  Good-Fair.  Best action deep!  Drifting or vertical fishing 4-6” suckers on Lindy style rigs or 3/8oz jigs down sand/gravel slides of 30-45’ . Fight fish slowly with this style of fishing to ensure safe release.

Big  smallies of 17-20”+ this past week.

Walleye: Fair.  Tough fishing as  of late. Best in deep water on large lakes. Work same baits and style as smallmouth bass anglers, yet try waters as deep as 65’.

Crappies: Fair. Still a few anglers working crappies on days  where the wind allows. Action slowing.

Largemouth Bass, Bluegills, Yellow Perch:  No reports.

With most lakes having surface temps of 47-49 deg. It’s been the changing wind (amount and direction) that has had the most effect on anglers catch rates. Forecasted highs of mid 40’s over next week should

see surface temps start to drop again which should bring another surge in musky activity.

Thanks,

Kurt
