December 17, 2018 Steve Suman   The forecast for this week is once again calling for relatively mild weather for this time of year, with few chances of precipitation of rain, snow, or a mix of both. It appears this weather will hold for the remainder of December and into the New Year, if not beyond. The opportunities for snow, at this ...

With the early ice conditions we are having I have been able to get out and put together what is probably one of the best early season walleye bites of my life. We are averaging 30 to 50 walleyes per day with the average fish being in the 16 to 18 inch range.  We are also seeing good numbers of larger fish in the 20 to 24 inch range as well. T...

The warm unseasonable air temps really brought out a lot of anglers over the weekend. Many anglers were putting out permanent ice shacks. Ice thickness ranged around 7 inches. Vehicle traffic is definitely not advised. Anyone traveling across lakes whether on foot or on ATV /sleds should be aware that ice thickness can change so be careful. Ang...

December 3, 2018 Steve Suman   The forecast for this week indicates average to slightly below average temperatures and a few chances for mostly light snow (but always subject to change!) The average temperatures for this time in December include highs in the upper 20s and lows in the lower double-digits. Lack of snow cover is helping lake i...

With ice thickness slowly building, more opportunities opening up for anglers here in the Northwoods.   Most areas averaging 5-7” and while some of our larger lakes are just locking up, with the lack of snow on these newer freeze ups, the ice will actually catch up on these lakes.   Walleye:  Very Good-Good – Some act...

Well it looks like we are off to an early start on winter. What a crazy year. We went from winter to summer, then right back to winter. We had a very short fall if any really, and basically no spring this year whatsoever.  But now with the 2018 gun deer season only about a week away I know many hunters like myself are happy to see the snow on ...

November 5, 2018 Steve Suman   Look for this week to bring rain, snow, and dropping temperatures into the weekend. This could continue for another week, but then see a slight warming trend (though “warming” might be misleading). The long-range prediction for this winter is warmer and drier than average, but apparently it does no...
