Well, Its starting out to be a great ice fishing season! Enough ice to get around on... with not to much snow on the ice to worry about access or travel. Caution is still advised on some larger lakes (Trout, Fence, Big Crawling Stone) where ice thickness varies from 2-6" but overall averages of 10-12"+ cover most of our Lakeland area lakes.Walleyes...

This past week has been phenomenal for ice fishing.  With 5 to 10 inches of good ice and little snow on most lakes, travel conditions are about as perfect as you could want.  In addition to the great conditions the bite has been very good for all species.   Walleyes have been extremely active right before and after dark with some go...

This week starts with subzero temperatures and wind chill advisories, but the forecast shows few chances for snow AND calls for a nice warming trend through the end of the week!   “Winter definitely set in early again this year,” says Pat at Happy Hooker. “All Quiet Lakes waters iced up, with a few open spots only on the la...

We had a slow start to the beginning of the 2014 gun deer season, but we did get off to a great start to our  ice fishing season with some phenomenal catches being made. Opening weekend starting off foggy and with high temperatures, deer movement was not only slower than normal but hunters visibility was drastically impeded.  With the fo...

Steve Suman The welcome, though too brief, break from winter this past weekend is now history as winter weather again makes its mark. Forecasts call for another four to six inches of snow accumulation through Monday night, accompanied by up to 30 mph wind gusts. Not great – but it is also not Buffalo! Deer hunters enjoyed mild temperatures ...
  • 11/26/2014 11:35:00 AM
With no doe tags and a lower then normal deer population many hunters decided to spend some or in cases most of opening weekend of the Wisconsin Deer Firearm season on the ice. Most area fishermen are reporting 5 to 7 inches of good ice on area lakes. Walleye and pike anglers have been hitting the ice for well over a week now and panfish anglers ar...

With 3 to 6 inches of ice being reported on most area waters the Open Water fishing season has come to a screeching halt. There were mixed reviews on 2014 season, Walleye seemed to be a little tough but it was a great panfish season for most area anglers. Musky fishermen were torn, some reported a great season while other sad it was&nb...

Steve Suman By now, most (though not all!) have accepted the reality that winter has arrived and it appears to be in for the long haul. Snow and cold remain in the forecast, however a warm-up is in the works for the end of the week! “Snow continued to pile up, temperatures continued to drop, and open water fishing season ended,” says ...

Steve Suman According to the forecast (or a look out the window), our beautiful fall is coming to an ugly end, with considerable snow accumulation the first part of the week followed by COLD temperatures. Like it or not, ready for it or not, winter season is arriving in grand style. So be it – let the winter fun begin! “Fishing is goo...

Winters early arrival to the Northwood's was surely a wake up call to finish-up any postponed outside chores. A snapshot of what's to come... with 3-6" of snow falling last Thursday and high winds (to 45mph) followed by lows of 9-13deg. to keep the snowy reminder here a while. The shallow pond saw skim ice (the pond behind our shop was 3/4 covere...

Steve Suman This week’s weather seems to slip and slide into a new season, with the “s” word used once or twice, and Saturday’s low in the teens. It was a great fall run! “Muskie anglers are on the water and the bigger fish are starting to feed,” says Pat at Happy Hooker. “Best action is wit...

Lots of different weather as of late and because of  these daily changes, patterns have been hard to set up. Musky:  Very good-good.  Daily action  is changing with the  weather.  Fish are not as active for the most part (though) one group of Boulder Junction anglers did report a 5 fish day),but, some nice fish have b...

By John Luthens It seems only an eye blink removed from the waist-deep snow of March on the banks of the Bois Brule River. I peered through snow-draped pines at the cold and ropy mist hanging over the water. I stood on ice shelves that hung suspended and frail over the stained depths of the river. The late-winter sun shone promise onto sand banks...

OWO Field Reporter Ron Klimcke reports walleye action picking up on the Chippewa Flowage. He caught a nice limit this afternoon but released this 23 ¼ inch fish taken on a Jig and sucker minnow.

We have had some great fall weather and some great area fishing to go with it. As I said in past weeks reports I'm doing mostly Musky trips right now and the bigger fish are starting to feed heavy. Clients are doing best in my boat on Suckers and Quick Set rigs but we are still getting a few fish casting. Jakes, Grandmas and larger rubber baits are...

By Wayne Morgenthaler Trout season is closed but it was a very productive year.  Streams are at normal water level and getting ready for the trapping season.  The backwaters of the Wisconsin River are providing some action.  With the change in water temperature the bluegills are biting on wax worms near the weed edges.  I advi...
