With the consistent hot weather and no wind, Lake Geneva has been a bit slower than normal.  The water temperature is higher than it has been in recent years, at or around 82 degrees on the surface and this is causing the fish to deviate from their normal summer patterns. The largemouth bass I’ve been catching have been in 18-20 ft of w...

A mix of cooler weather and some high pressure systems took the edge off the hot bite for several species this past week. Still, for anglers willing to fish early and late in the day, good catches are still being reported.Largemouth Bass: Very Good. Maybe it’s due to sheer numbers, but the green bass just don’t seem to slow down. Wacky ...

While not as warm as the previous week, the continued warm weather meant some stable patterns and fairly consistent fishing.  A few high sky days meant the best times were early or late, but, overall the bite has remained good.Smallmouth Bass:  Very good.  Off-shore humps remain best.   Rock and gravel of 18-28’. ...

August 1, 2016 Steve Suman The Hayward area enjoyed gorgeous weather this past weekend, a welcome change and greatly appreciated by those attending the Lumberjack World Championships. While the forecast predicts a return to rain and thunderstorms again this week, it also shows another beautiful weekend ahead! “Things are slowly return...

Lake Geneva has been rather slow in the last week.  The lake has been full of 3-4 inch bluegills throughout the water column which makes the game fish tricky to fish.  I’ve caught these bluegills anywhere from 6 to28 ft of water.  With the warm summer, the water temperature is some of the highest I’ve seen on Lake Geneva....

Delavan Lake fishing remains a bit slower than in recent years, however the boat traffic is substantially lighter than in past years.  Bluegill fishing is fantastic.  The overall size of the fish is about 1 inch longer than in past years.  The fish are averaging about 8 inches.  The best water depth has been 13-16 ft on the out...

A good week of true summer has helped holster the success of anglers in the Lakeland area for those willing to fish early and late.Temps in the upper 80’s brought the surface temps into the upper 70’s, even on the bigger lakes. Warm water means higher metabolism for fish, the shallows (during low light conditions) filled up with schools...

The dog days of summer have hit early.  We have had excessive heat and high humidity.  The fishing has been rather slow.  The biggest problem on the lake has been the 3 inch bluegills that seem to be everywhere throughout the water column.  The most consistent bite remains the largemouth bass. The largemouth bass have been conc...

Delavan lake fishing has been slower than recent years for this particular time of year.  The best bite on the lake remains the bluegills.  They are starting to go deeper off the weedline. Bluegill action has been fantastic in 15-20 ft of water.  The bigger fish have been located off the main lake points, such as the Yacht Club or t...

It’s a hot one, and with that said we are going to take a break from musky fishing until the water temperatures come back down.  High water temperatures and big fish Do Not mix well.  With water temperatures above 80 degrees muskies can become very easily stressed out after being fought which can cause irrevocable damage...

Mid-Summer has not been typical. Morning temps in the 40’s put the early bite off. Heat coming in this week should light a fire under a few species as was noted by the afternoon and evening anglers as of late.Smallmouth Bass: Very Good. Good numbers and big fish. Several cracking 21” this weekend, moving the interest in these battlers. ...

Steve Suman   This week has the potential to be much better than last week (that is not asking much), but it could be a warm one. Do not become cabin-bound due to the weather. Check daily forecasts and enjoy the North Woods!   “Despite lingering effects from the big storm,” says Pat at Happy Hooker, “anglers report s...

Weather inconsistencies have made for interesting fishing conditions this past week but with that said the bite has been very good. Water temperatures have dropped a few degrees the past few days with the recent cold front but that won’t last long with much warmer temperatures in the forecast.   Water levels are a bit high with rece...

With the high water temperatures and algae bloom, Delavan Lake has been rather difficult to fish.  The big schools of largemouth have been few and far between.  The best action on the lake remains the bluegills, which have been above average in size this summer. Largemouth bass fishing has been best in 15-17 ft of water.  I’ve...
  • 7/19/2016 9:50:00 AM
Lake Geneva has been mediocre for fishing.  The lake continues to be in the regular summer pattern.  The most consistent bite has been northern pike or largemouth bass.  The bigger fish are moving off the weedline to their deep summer haunts. Northern Pike action has been best in Fontana on the break line in 27-31 ft of water. ...

Lake Geneva fishing has been very good.  The fish still remain in relatively shallow water.  The best bite is in 12-16 ft of water.  The thermocline is forming but is not yet complete. Northern Pike action has been good in the 30-32 ft depth range.  Look for them near the Fontana Beach or in Williams Bay.  The best bait is...

Delavan Lake fishing has been great.  The algae bloom that was all encompassing the lake subsided with last weeks rain.  The water clarity is above average for this time of year. Walleye fishing has slowed with the warmer water temperatures.  The walleyes I’ve been catching have been while fishing for something else in 15-16 f...

Beautiful day to get out on the area lakes. Spawn is pretty much over and the fish are going deeper. We had 2 couples in this week that nick-named  Rick , the" fishing magician". They caught northern, bass, perch, crappies and sunnies. Mostly on Spooner with the traditional jig and waxie for the panfish and crankbaits for the la...

Nice days, but, cold mornings have been the past week’s biggest drawback.  Morning temps in the 40’s dropping surface temps on some lakes back into the 60’s.  Afternoons and evening have been the best times to fish overall.  Largemouth Bass:  Good – Very good.  Even this species has been affected by...

Steve Suman This summer is one for the Scouts – “Be prepared!” While the forecast does indicate some sunshine this next week, it shows more chances for rain and thunderstorms. Do not allow weather predictionsto deter you from enjoying outdoor activities. Make plans, follow them, and be a good Scout and go prepared! “U...

Fishing on Lake Geneva remains excellent.  The best success remains in the 12-14 ft water depth.  The fish have been very active with the warmer water. Largemouth bass action has been very good by Trinkes and by piers 1-20.  The best approach is Senkos fished Wacky style or split shot rigged nightcrawlers.  The fish appear to b...

Even though you’ve read reports about the blue-green algae, the fishing remains very good.  All the species are in their summer patterns and biting aggressively.  Because of the algae, pleasure boat traffic has been substantially less than normal this time of year.  I’m not an expert on the algae, but I don’t think ...
