Steve Suman This week’s forecast currently indicates the mild summer weather continues, with moderate highs, cooler lows, and (surprisingly) few chance of rain. “Fish activity is steady,” says Pat at Happy Hooker, “with 60s to low 70s water temperatures keeping fish scattered from shallow to deep. “Muskie actio...

Fishing on Lake Geneva continues to be very good.  The one key to Lake Geneva is that the water is slowly warming and the thermocline is starting to form, which is adding a the deep water bite. Smallmouth bass are schooled in 20-25 ft of water.  Look for the fish by Fontana Beach or by Gage marine.  They can be caught using either a...

Due to the colder than normal water temperatures, the fish are shallower than normal.  The best bite on the lake has been on a medium sucker fished on a lindy rig or Thill medium slip bobber.  Largemouth bass can be caught using 3 different methods.  They can be caught on black and blue jigs fished under the docks, a slip bobber rig...

Hi Folks – We are in mid-summer and fishing has remained pretty good overall.  Fish have been active despite the cold fronts that have been battering the area. With walleye, we have been finding them in fairly shallow weeds, 5 to 13 feet depending on water clarity. When cold fronts hit they will move into 11 to 14 foot timber.  Wal...

~ Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter and wife Carolyn from Anglers All, 715/682-5754 (http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following: This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay. Fishing has been great again this past week! Drift boat trips on the rivers have been productive for smallmouth bass and a little musky a...

Fishing has improved over previous weeks.  Like, Lake Geneva, I’m having a hard time with active Northern Pike but everything else is biting substantially better.  This past week with the cooler weather the largemouth bass moved tighter to shore.  My best depth was 6-8 ft of water.  I’ve been catching them on top wa...

This past week seemed to be slow with summer vacationers, making Lake Geneva very pleasant to fish with very little boat traffic.  Due to the weather being cooler than normal, the fishing is good with the exception of the northern pike.  Northern Pike fishing has been slow due to the fact that the pike have not made it down to the thermo...

Finally some summer like weather moved in over the weekend, bringing some typical mid-summer action as well as some non-typical mid July occurrences such as mayfly hatches! On just about any other summer, off shore gravel humps provide anglers plenty of opportunity for walleyes and small mouth bass action. Until the past week, this action has bee...

Lake Geneva has been up and down with fishing success.  Some days are better than others due to the cooler water temperatures and the scattered bait fish.  If you can find the pods of minnows, you will have good success on the smallmouth bass in the deeper water. The best bite on the lake has been the smallmouth bass and bluegills. Blueg...

Due to the cold front last week, fishing was tough for most of the week.  As the week went on and the warmer weather moved in the fishing improved immensely.  Bluegill action started to improve by later in the week.  They were in 11-14 ft of water off the weedline.  The best approach is a split shot rigged leaf worm.  Look...

The cold fronts that moved thru last week slowed the bite down a bit, Fishing was picking up a little by the weekend but fish were hitting very lightly and you really needed to finesse them but they are still eating. Ross's sport shop guides are still doing well on Walleye, we are finding them scattered from 8 to 22 feet of water and catching th...

Steve Suman The hot and humid Monday gives way to moderate temperatures through midweek, with thunderstorm chances early and late in the week ... according to the prognosticators ... and always subject to change! “Finding good weed cover is the best bet for anglers,” says Pat at Happy Hooker. “Muskies are both shallow and deep....

The weather this year seems to be getting a lot of conversation. Summer has been filled with plenty of warm and cold fronts, with several inches of rain mixed in. It's affecting the fish, but it's also making for good fishing on the warm sunny days.  The walleyes this summer seem to be a bit spooky. What I mean by that is if you're ...

ASHLAND, Wis. – Lake Superior in summer means plenty of smallmouth bass in Chequamegon Bay.  The smallmouth bass fishing season runs from mid-May through late October, the latter considered to be “trophy month” for “smallies.” The 12-mile-long bay’s rock piles and breakwater structures make for ...

“Here’s a fish,” Doug said. He extended his spinning rod, waited a moment and then yanked back. His rod was bent in half.      “It’s a good fish,” he added. The fish took off and the rod tip was lunging. Doug stopped the fish and turned it around but the fish took off again. A moment ...

Even though the boat traffic is intense, fishing continues to be very good.  There are multiple species active right now.  The best time for fishing is early p.m. or late evening to avoid some of the boat traffic. Largemouth bass remain on the main lake points.  The best location has been by the Village Supper Club, the Yacht Club p...

Lake Geneva has been producing a lot of fish.  The fish have moved from the shallow weed flats to the deep rocky points.  Smallmouth bass are starting to school.  The best location has been by the channel by Fontana Beach or by the Yacht Club in Fontana.  The best approach is lindy rigging nightcrawlers or medium suckers. ...

Steve Suman Outstanding Sunday weather set the pattern for this week (so say the forecasts), with mild days, cool nights, and a few chances for showers and thunderstorms early and late in the week. “Weather is affecting fishing, but anglers are catching fish,” says Pat at Happy Hooker. “Fish muskies on deeper weedlines and...

Kevin Munson with his monster musky taken with Hooksetters Guide Phil Schweik Outstanding musky bite this past week with some real GIANTS caught.  We had several fish in the 40 to 50 inch range that were caught this past week with one monster going 51 inches and having a 26 inch girth with a calculated weight at 43 pounds. Steve Suman Hayward area visitors enjoyed near-perfect weather during the July 4th weekend, with warm, dry days and cooler nights. This week looks to be more of the same, with a few thunderstorms tossed into the mix. Pat at Happy Hooker says erratic weather conditions made for variable fishing success last week. “Muskie anglers a...

The summer patterns on Delavan Lake are in full swing.  The northern pike and largemouth bass are on the deep weedlines.  The walleyes have slowed quite a bit.  The one drawback for summer on Delavan Lake is the boat traffic.  Your best bet is early in the morning or in the evenings otherwise, it’s just too busy to fish. ...
