Ashland Area Fishing Report for July 25, 2014
~ Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter and wife Carolyn from Anglers All, 715/682-5754 (http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following:
This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay. Fishing has been great again this past week! Drift boat trips on the rivers have been productive for smallmouth bass and a little musky action, which is a nice change of pace.
Out on the big water, the smallmouth are all over the place right now – shallow, deep, near shore, offshore. They can be found in a lot of different places and present many unique fishing opportunities. The usual summer holes are holding fish, (the break wall, rock pile, etc.), but they really can be found just about anywhere as long as the water is warm.
Good reports of walleye fishing are coming in from the Short Bridge area as well as Brush Point. Along the Ashland shoreline, they’re catching smallmouth bass, northern pike, rock bass, perch and walleye (during the low-light hours).
Trolling for trout and salmon has still been good offshore and out into the Apostle Islands, but there has been a good number of brown trout in the bay proper as well. The fish are shallow, or higher in the water column early, and move deeper as the day progresses.
According to Ashland fishing guide Luke Kavajecz, “This warmer weather has been great, and it's been a beautiful week on Lake Superior. This is a great time of year to be fishing up here.”
