With winter still hanging on and ice in a few locations we have been able to not only get out on the ice but are still catching a few fish. The open water bite is picking up and walleyes are on the menu. Turkey season is under way but with a quiet bang. Nick Laska with a very nice walleye Chris Blank with a nice walleye Ice f...

Spring just won't break through for us here in northern Wisconsin. There is still plenty of solid ice to fish on, and with a cold wet forecast, I don't see the ice leaving anytime soon. On the positive side, the crappies are really starting to put that late ice feed bag on, and many that are being found are good sized ones. If you’re findi...

Ice travel conditions improved after Monday's rain.  Truck and ATV travel are good.  Ice is still thick (27-31"). The rain removed a lot of snow and slush, though knee high rubber boots (as well as cleats) are still a good idea for walking on ice. Crappie:  Good.  Action improved with new weather (clouds, etc.).  Nice catc...

By: Steve Suman Officially, March 20 marked the first day of spring, but as a friend recently opined, it should probably be April 20 in the north woods. It is difficult to argue against his point when this week’s forecast includes snow and low temperatures in the teens. Still – far nicer than what people in the western states expect mi...

Though the calendar says April, don’t put your ice fishing gear away yet!  Looks like there will be plenty of ice fishing for panfish here in the Northwoods for weeks to come.  With night time temps in the teens and twenty’s and daytime temps in the low 30’s to 40’s, we won’t be losing any ice for a while. F...

By Wayne Morgenthaler April 1st ice fishing and trout report In Richland County, ice fishing is just about done on the back waters near Lone Rock.  The best bite is still the last hour before darkness.  The more aggressive fish are just below the ice.  This means to walk softly and not make too much noise.  The majority of the...

Plenty of ice still hanging on for ice fisherman as we enter April and the start of the open water walleye season on the river. Hooksetters Guide Phil Schweik with a couple of nice crappies through the ice. Hooksetters Guide Adam Rasmussen and John Sparbel with some nice open water walleyes. We are still catching lots of nice...

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754,  http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com reports: Ice Fishing is still happening on Chequamegon Bay. The fishing seems to be getting better but traveling around is really getting tougher. There are some slush holes to be aware of. Roger says snowmobiles and 4-wheelers are the only sour...

There was a slight improvement with the crappie fishing this past week. The fish were suspended 10-20 ft over thirty feet of water. 1/32 oz jigs tipped with hair caught the most fish. Many lookers and many holes as fish covered a large area. It appeared that many of the fish would follow the bait 10 feet up before striking. Perch were relating to t...

By: Steve Suman Two weeks into spring and it still looks like winter! The forecast for this week predicts fluctuating temperatures and various types of precipitation, but in general shows a gradual warming trend. “There is still plenty of ice,” says Pat at Happy Hooker, “but the melting snow is creating some slushy areas on the ...

Open water anglers starting to wet their lines but ice fishing still going strong. With open water below many are dams anglers are starting to get out and wet their lines. A few nice walleyes have fallen to jigs in 1/8th and 1/4 ounce this past week and the bite will continue to get better as we move into the spring spawn.  Right now for cons...

Winter just won't let go here is Wisconsin. Last year you could drop the boat in the local lakes and this year we are staring at frozen lakes covered in snow. Hopefully by the fishing opener we will be able to fish in a boat. For people still hitting the ice, they are having success catching fish. The cloudy days are providing action late into t...

Reports have been quiet lately due to slush and snow continuing to hold anglers back. Warm weather and sunshine later this week finally look promising. Crappie:  Good.  Fish being caught in water depths of 6-15 feet and beginning to move up higher in the water column; best times being early to mid-morning and then again late-afternoon-du...

With Mother Nature still hanging we are seeing plenty of ice on area lakes for fishing, but all the snow could make for an interesting 2013 turkey season. Crappies are still being targeted heavily by area anglers as nice catches are being made in transition areas between deep water haunts and spring spawning areas.  Most of the fish we are fi...

If you are looking to plan a last minute snowmobile trip, the trails are waiting for you in Washburn County! The Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are still in good condition and snow is in the forecast yet again tomorrow.  Within the last week the area has received 6-9 inches of fresh snow.  Trail access to lodging, dining, gas, and more...

And the snow just keeps coming... With another two days of snow in the forecast, temperatures projected to rise later this week. Travel on lakes still difficult with vehicles and most anglers walking out to fish. It’s hard to believe that a year ago at this time it was 73 degrees and the ice was out by the 21st of March. Some reports of peopl...

Rain this past weekend followed by 7 inches of snow overnight (3/10/12) will make lake travel difficult on lakes with the slush that has worsened with last week’s warm weather and the weekend rain. Snowmobile highly recommended. Over the weekend bites have been slowing down and fish reports quite due to the incoming weather. Some die-hards fi...
