Warden Blotter - September 18, 2012 Poynette and Madison warden teams

Wardens Henry Bauman, Nathan Kroeplin and Cara Kamke of Madison apprehended and issued citations to a Cambridge suspect for Illegal use of pesticides to poison wildlife.

Warden Mike Dieckhoff of Janesville and Deputy Wardens Samantha Koscher and Jason Rice of Madison participated in a disabled fishing event with the Rock Valley Anglers Group at Camp Rotamer. This is an annual event which includes a picnic, with The Riverfront folks, to provide fishing opportunities for developmentally disabled individuals. This was a great event again and the Rock Valley Anglers should be given thanks for their role in providing this valuable volunteer service throughout the summer to these anglers in allowing them to enjoy the outdoors.

Warden Ryan Ellifson of Jefferson assisted Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office with search for a missing 7-year-old girl. The girl had wandered off while playing with the dogs of a family friend. Sergeant Rue of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office asked Warden Ellifson to search from an airplane with Sheriff’s Deputies and Watertown Airport staff. The girl was found by ground searchers in a wetland area over a mile away from where she went missing. The girl had been missing for over 3 hours before being found. She was muddy from head to toe and had small cuts on her arms and legs from vegetation. She was not seriously harmed, and happy to be reunited with her family.

Warden Ryan Ellifson of Jefferson participated in the “Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue Night Out” in Lake Mills. Warden Ellifson brought a boat for display and handed out Boating Safety wrist bands to kids attending. Warden Ellifson explained the duties and responsibilities of Conservation Wardens, and discussed safety courses and requirements with the public.

Warden Ryan Ellifson of Jefferson ran the archery range for the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) Camp for Kids and Warden Nathan Kroeplin of Madison assisted. For more information on COPS visit www.nationalcops.org.

Warden Nathan Kroeplin of Madison along with Wardens Cara Kamke, Mike Dieckhoff and Henry Bauman along with Deputy Wardens Samantha Koscher and Kevin Christorf worked an enforcement effort at the Mazomanie Beach. On this day, they issued 17 citations for violations relating to disorderly conduct, driving without a license, and drug related offenses.

Warden Nathan Kroeplin of Madison was very involved in several different public relations events during the month of August. Warden Kroeplin gave presentations to 6 Hunter Education classes and 1 presentation at a youth event sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation. Warden Kroeplin also attended two “Safety Nights Out” in Pine Bluff and Middleton. Warden Kroeplin partnered with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and put on a kids fishing day in Cross Plains.

Warden Boyd Richter of Janesville investigated a hotline complaint concerning a subject harvesting ginseng during the closed season in Green County. Warden Richter and Deputy Warden Jason Rice of Madison made contact with the suspect. The suspect admitted to digging one ginseng plant on the property which he did not have permission to be on and claimed he had replanted the ginseng because it had a small root. The suspect admitted he would have kept the root if it was bigger and knew the ginseng season did not open for another week. The suspect also admitted to buying ginseng from other harvesters and reselling it in 2011, while not having a ginseng buyer’s license. Citations were issued.

Warden Boyd Richter of Janesville investigated a complaint of a fish kill on Mud Lake near the City of Milton. Richter found several hundred crappies, bluegills, perch, and large mouth bass, among others dead on the shoreline. Oxygen level fluctuations on the lake after a rain event are believed to be a likely culprit.

Warden John Buss of Sauk City received a complaint from an off duty Sauk County Deputy about a burning complaint. Upon investigation, it was learned that the suspect was burning home furniture, and tires. Environmental staff is following up on the complaint.

Warden David Horzewski of Reedsburg worked three days at the DNR booth at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee, where he educated visitors and had very positive interactions with the public.

Warden Nadolski responded to several complaints of snakes getting into people’s houses. All snakes were removed and released to a more suitable habitat.

Warden Paul Nell of Horicon followed up on a complaint of a convicted felon that had killed two deer illegally during past gun deer seasons. Warden Nell determined that the hunter had retrieved motor vehicle killed deer in the CWD zone and registered them as a gun kill to obtain “Earn a Buck” stickers to use at a later time.
