Warden Blotter: Southeast, Northwest warden teams

January 8, 2013

By: Bureau of Law Enforcement

Southeast, Northwest warden teams

Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties

Warden Mike Hirschboeck of Racine County organized a Learn to Hunt deer in Racine and Kenosha counties. There were 12 youth participants in the hunt. No deer were harvested but many learning opportunities took place. Assisting Warden Hirschboeck was Warden Juan Gomez, Warden Randy Dunkel, Warden Kyle Dilley, Warden Ben Mott and Deputy Warden Dustin Gabrielson.

Warden Kyle Dilley of Kenosha County coordinated a wood duck box project with Raymond Elementary School third and fourth graders. More than 80 students worked together to construct 16 wood duck boxes that will be placed in local marshes in the spring. Wardens Gabrielson, Hirschboeck and Mott also assisted with the project.

Warden Juan Gomez of Walworth County Elkhorn helped in the investigation of a wolf shot in Walworth County. It was found through investigation that a deer hunter shot and killed a wolf on private lands of another. The hunter did not have a legal wolf tag to tag the wolf appropriately. Enforcement action was taken.

Warden Hirschboeck gave two law enforcement presentations to snowmobile safety classes, responded to complaints of illegal traps being placed and several illegal baited stands. Enforcement action was taken on the baited tree stands.

Burnett, Polk, Washburn and Sawyer counties

Warden Tom Heisler of Winter investigated an illegal deer baiting complaint. During the contact with the reporting party, Warden Heisler found the reporting party also had placed illegal bait on the opposite side of the road. Enforcement action was taken.

Warden Dave Swanson of Minong contacted an archery deer hunter who had left a ground blind on DNR land with no identification on the blind. The hunter also had dumped a 50-pound bag of corn as deer bait. Enforcement action was taken.

Warden Jon Hagen of Spooner and Warden Jesse Ashton of Luck investigated a baiting complaint. Wardens located two baiting violations with one of them found on a neighboring property. Enforcement actions were taken on baiting and borrow/loan license violations.

Warden Chris Spaight of Grantsburg was contacted by the Burnett County Sheriff’s Department about a criminal damage to property, theft and ATV complaint near Grantsburg. Warden Spaight and a Burnett County Sheriff’s Deputy went to the scene and looked over the area. It seemed clear by the way the suspects were operating the ATV that the machine was most likely stolen. Approximately four hours later, the ATV was located and found to be stolen.
