Warden Blotter: Lower St. Croix River warden team

November 27, 2012

By: Bureau of Law Enforcement

In St Croix County, Warden Paul Sickman helped organize a youth event at Forest Ridge Hunt Club with 60 youths participating in trap shooting, archery, fishing and pheasant hunting. Thanks to the hunt club, Pheasants Forever, Star Prairie Fish and Game Association, St Croix County Sportsman’s Alliance and all the volunteers.

Sickman also assisted with putting on a copper bullet demo at New Richmond shooting range and opened eyes to all attendees to the performance of copper bullets. Approximately 15 people in attendance.

Warden David Hausman investigated a complaint of archery hunters leaving tree stands and blinds on VPA Lands in Pierce County. Hausman found that one subject drove his truck on to property in addition to leaving the stands. Enforcement action was taken.

Warden Wayne Flak had contact with a duck hunter after hunting hours. Flak helped him with his canoe and as they were talking several shots came from two other hunters still near the water. Both were cited for late hunting, 33 minutes after close.

Warden Bill Wrasse has noted an increase in hunting on state lands. Warden Wrasse encourages hunters to review the regulations on page 35- 37 that are in place for hunting on these properties. Most violations encountered are leaving hunting stands/ground blinds overnight, using screw in steps, cutting vegetation, not labeling cameras and stands, and operating vehicles on state lands.

Warden Jim Cleven helped organize a Learn to Hunt event where eight youths were instructed in small game hunting and went squirrel hunting over several days. The event was sponsored by Dunn County Fish and Game Club and the “Dunn Gobblin Long Spurs” Chapter, of the NWTF, donated $400.00 for the event. Cleven also helped organize a Women’s Learn to Hunt Pheasant event. This event was sponsored by Dunn County Fish and Game and the Whispering Emerald Ridge Game farm. Nine women participated and 12 pheasants were taken.
