Overbagging, illegal deer kills and snowmobilers among recent cases in east central counties
Warden Judi Nigbor of Montello assisted the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department with locating a lost snowmobiler. The snowmobiler was found when the dispatcher was able to contact the person by cell phone. The snowmobiler was cold but not injured.
Warden Ted Dremel of Waupaca and Deputy Warden Sam Schroeder participated in a Learn to Fish event held in Waupaca. Fifty-four young anglers attended this event and participants learned how to tie flies, cast, and learned various techniques on fishing through the ice.
Wardens Nigbor, Ryan Propson of Appleton, Ted Dremel of Waupaca and Jeff Knorr of Fremont interviewed a person believed to have shot two bucks with archery equipment and had the second large buck tagged by another. Investigation resulted in the cape and antlers being seized and enforcement action taken.
Warden Knorr contacted property owners for illegal operation of snowmobiles on state land.
Warden Nigbor followed up on a snowmobile accident that was handled by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department. The accident involved an intoxicated individual who was illegally operating when the person left the roadway and struck a tree. Enforcement actions for OWI and operating on the roadway were handled involving the intoxicated snowmobiler and a second operator.
Wardens Nigbor, Mike Young of Shiocton and Carl Mesman of Wautoma worked with the Waushara County Sheriff Department for snowmobile enforcement in the Redgranite area emphasizing OWI and night speed limit enforcement.
Warden Nate Ackerman of Berlin observed fishers on Beyers Cove on Green Lake. Ackerman checked one person coming off the lake with 33 panfish. When the angler dumped the fish out for Ackerman to count, the individual stated he knew he was over the limit. Enforcement action was taken.
Warden Ted Dremel of Waupaca assisted in coordinating a trapper education class. The trapper education class will be held at Hartman Creek State Park on March 23 and 24.
Warden Dremel participated in a snowmobile group enforcement effort with the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department. Several snowmobilers were contacted for failing to stop at a stop sign and not having current registration.
Warden Dremel met with the Friends of Hartman Creek State Park to discuss the upcoming law regarding trapping in state parks. Dremel brought in traps and described their uses.
Wardens Young, Propson, Mike Disher of Chilton and Tom Sturtivant of Madison investigated a case involving four individuals killing multiple bucks. Enforcement action was taken upon the completion of the investigation.
