Warden Blotter: Recent cases from Waukesha, Milwaukee areas

February 20, 2013

By: Bureau of Law Enforcement

Warden teams based in southeast Wisconsin

Waukesha and Milwaukee counties

Warden Ben Mott of Milwaukee assisted Southern Unit Rangers with a lost skier call from the Nordic Trails.

Warden Groppi contacted two goose hunters along the break wall in St. Francis. Mott found one of the hunters did not have a goose hunting permit, produced only an expired temporary federal waterfowl stamp, and had a shotgun that held more than three shells. The other individual had a goose license with two slits marked, but was found to have not called either of the geese in as required. Both individuals were illegally hunting from a break wall area. Enforcement action was taken against both individuals.

While Warden Mitch Groenier of Waukesha was working Okauchee Lake for snowmobile enforcement, he was called for two individuals on one snowmobile that was “jumping” open water. The operator didn’t make it across the open water and the snowmobile sank. Both riders made it out of the water. That operator was arrested for OWI as well.

Warden Groppi investigated a complaint of illegal deer feeding on property owned by the Village of Menomonee Falls. Warden Groppi found two individuals were placing bait and one dumped a coyote carcass village property. Enforcement action was taken.

Wardens Groppi and Brandon Brandon Leis of Waukesha responded to a complaint of possible deer hunting during the closed season. The individuals were hunting rabbits, but one of did not have a license. Enforcement action was taken.

Warden Steve Sanidas investigated a carcass dumping complaint on private land in the Town of Vernon. Two subjects had placed three car kill deer carcasses on the property without permission. The carcasses were placed for the purpose of coyote trapping and none of the deer carcasses were legally tagged. Enforcement action was taken.

Warden Sanidas worked ATV enforcement on Phantom Lakes in response to complaints of reckless operation. Enforcement action is pending for operating without ATV Safety Certification. Issued several warnings for equipment violations and failure to display certification.
