Warden Blotter: Milwaukee, Racine, Sheboygan area warden teams

November 26, 2012

By: Bureau of Law Enforcement

Waukesha-Milwaukee warden team

Warden Gervis Myles spoke at length with an individual at the Milwaukee DNR office who stated his fishing and hunting parties have been harassed at different locations around Wisconsin. The individual stated that while fishing a couple of weeks ago on Hunters Lake in Waukesha County, a blue bass boat came in their direction at a high rate of speed. The subjects in the bass boat yelled racial slurs and proceeded to shoot guns near the shoreline afterwards. The individual was asked to call the Hotline when harassment occurs since it is illegal to interfere with someone legally hunting or fishing.

A Waukesha County individual received a three-year revocation of his hunting privileges stemming from an investigation conducted by Warden Matt Groppi. The case involved deer baiting, providing false information to the DNR, falsifying deer registration form, transporting a deer outside of the CWD management zone, and ultimately not complying with the terms of the resolution agreed to by his attorney.

Warden Mitch Groenier contacted a group of goose hunters in a hay field. One of the hunters stated that they had not had any shooting even though Groenier could see feathers on the ground. Groenier contacted the rest of the group and found a dead goose and two plucked turkeys with no associated tags. Citations were issued for no turkey licenses, an unplugged gun and no goose permit.

Warden Ben Mott received a Hotline complaint about a deer being shot at the archery range in Cudahy’s Warnimont Park. Cudahy Police responded and secured the deer as well as an arrow used to kill the deer. The suspect and a relative were at the range when the deer walked out close to the range. The individual received several citations and his archery equipment was seized. The individual was also arrested by Cudahy Police department under a warrant issued through Cudahy.

Warden Matt Groppi was on patrol at night and observed a vehicle stopped with the engine running and lights on at an intersection with a green light. Warden Groppi checked the vehicle and found it was unoccupied. Warden Groppi contacted the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department who responded and Warden Groppi assisted the deputies with locating the subject who was found at an adjacent gas station. The individual was found to be intoxicated and had loaded handgun in a bag on his passenger seat. The subject was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Waukesha County is forwarding charges for possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

Racine-Kenosha-Walworth warden team

Warden Kyle Dilley of Kenosha County gave a presentation at an October meeting of the Union Grove Chamber of Commerce. They discussed new hunting regulations, statistics on hunting, and recent deer diseases, as well as other topics.

Warden Mike Hirschboeck of Racine County, Warden Kyle Dilley, Warden Supervisor Jen Niemeyer and Deputy Warden Dustin Gabrielson worked night fish run enforcement on the Pike River in Kenosha County. Hirschboeck and Gabrielson observed two fishermen fishing after hours and illegally taking salmon. Upon contact by Dilley and Niemeyer, one of the subjects had a concealed hand gun. Later that individual was turned over to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department. The individual did not possess a carry and conceal permit. The individuals were found to have been fishing after hours and taking fish with a net. Law enforcement action was taken on both individuals.

Sheboygan/Ozaukee/Washington warden team

Warden Sean Neverman was working night hunting enforcement in the Cedarburg Bog area when he observed a small buck cross the road in front of Warden Neverman’s squad. The buck attempted to jump a large wire fence and got a rear hoof caught in the top couple wires of the fence entangling the deer. Warden Neverman was able to assist the deer getting the hoof free from the fence and the deer was able run off.

Warden Sean Neverman investigated a trapping complaint in Washington County in which a Red-Tailed Hawk had been found in a leg hold trap. Wardens Neverman and Joe Jerich investigated and determined the trapper had illegally placed six leg hold traps as pole traps along a pheasant pen. The wardens also uncovered evidence of two other birds of prey having been trapped previously. The trapper was also determined to be out of the area for 10 days on a hunting trip and had failed to check the set traps. Warden Neverman completed the investigation with traps being seized as evidence, and enforcement action is pending.

Warden Bob Lee followed up on a complaint of trapping muskrats before the season. Upon investigation, Lee found the suspect in possession of 7 muskrat pelts taken a day prior to the opening of the Muskrat trapping season.

Warden Mike Clutter of Adell in Sheboygan County received several complaints of dead deer found and illegal deer baiting. Warden Clutter also investigated complaints of a headless buck found, hunter harassment, goose carcasses dumped, salmon/trout snagging, felon possessing firearm for hunting, goose hunting during closed season, dead goose on residential front lawn, falconer attempting to take a raptor, hunt within 100 yards of residence, night hunting deer, illegal dredging in a lake, and otter trapped out of season. Warden Clutter also gave presentations to two hunter safety and one snowmobile safety class, the Longfellow School fishing club and the Sheboygan County Conservation Association monthly meeting.
