Lower St Croix warden team
Warden Bill Wrasse of Durand picked up three injured or dead eagles this month. All were hit by cars. One of the eagles was sent to the Raptor Center in Minnesota where it underwent surgery. The goal is to have this bird be released to the wild.
Warden Wayne Flak of Menomonie also was called on by the county to assist with directing a landing medical helicopter for two separate EMS calls.
Warden Bradley Peterson of Ellsworth participated in a career fair at the Ellsworth Fair Grounds. Approximately 1,000 high school students from the area attended the fair.
Peterson assisted Kinni Park and the Sheriff’s Dept with two kayakers that were four hours late for their pick-up time. Just before dark, the kayakers were located, very tired, wet and ready to get off of the river. The low water conditions slowed their progress down the river.
Warden Paul Sickman assisted with an investigation about a poached bear from Ashland County. Sickman contacted both parties involved and obtained information about shooting the bear in the wrong zone and illegal bait. Charges are pending.
Warden Sickman assisted the sheriff department with the apprehension of a subject who tried to burn himself inside his car. The individual received serious burns and fled the scene. He later was found on private property.
Waukesha/Milwaukee warden team
Warden Steve Sanidas of Milwaukee assisted Wildlife Supervisor Tim Lizotte and members of an Elmbrook church with a Learn to Hunt pheasant event. The event included training on pheasant ecology, rules and regulations and safe hunting practices. The finale of the event was a mentored pheasant hunt for participants.
Warden Doug Zeihen of Waukesha responded to a complaint of a person hunting ducks during the closed season. The hunter was located and found to be in possession of one drake mallard.
Wardens Nick Blankenheim and Recruit Ryan Caputo received information about a subject selling baby snapping turtles on Craigslist. The seller of the turtles was found to be a 17 year old who was warned for illegal sale of native species and possession of undersized snapping turtles.
Green Bay warden team
Warden Robert Stroess of Manitowoc assisted EPA Agents with computer forensics work during a federal search warrant.
