Hunters, Anglers: Nominate a Sporting Heritage Council rep
January 15, 2013
By: Department of Natural Resources
More time to submit Sporting Heritage Council top picks
If you think you missed the deadline to nominate someone to serve on the Sporting Heritage Council during the recent busy holiday season, there is good news. You have more time to get your top choice in for consideration. The deadline is January 23.
If you already have submitted a name on a behalf of yourself or your organization, you’re done. You do not have to resubmit.
As you’ll recall, this will be a first-ever council. Its mission will be to provide advice to the governor, the Natural Resources Board and the Legislature on fishing, hunting and trapping issues.
The Sporting Heritage Council will have 12 members. All are appointed. One automatic member is the Department of Natural Resources secretary or the designee, along with one member appointed by the Governor, two members of the Assembly, two members of the Senate, one member appointed by the Conservation Congress Executive Committee and five members appointed by the Natural Resources Board.
The members appointed by the Natural Resources Board will come from your nominations. The categories of these nominations, or who they will represent, are:
- Deer hunters
- Bear hunters
- Bird hunters
- Anglers
Individuals will serve three-year staggered terms. As you might expect, some of these categories already have a number of nominations and others not so many.
Again, you have until the close of business on Wednesday, January 23. Got someone in mind? Good! E-mail this address and ask to have a nomination form sent to you: Diane.Greisinger@Wisconsin.gov
