Learn how you can prevent wildfires; join live online chat with DNR forest fire experts Wednesday

Take advantage of spring's relaxed arrival by joining the Wednesday live noon hour online chat with DNR wildfire experts to learn how you can prevent wildfires whether you are a landowner, a property manager -- or an outdoor sports enthusiast.

Debris burning continues to be the top cause of wildfires in Wisconsin. There are alternatives to burning yard waste which is legal with proper permits. Have you ever seen a wildfire?  When was your first memory of Smokey Bear?  Do you know that you may need a permit to burn yard debris?  What things have you done to prepare your property for a wildfire? Have you ever prevented a fire?  Let’s chat about your personal experiences with “fire”  -- the good and the bad.

Join DNR forestry experts for an online chat from noon to 1 p.m. this Wednesday. To participate, visit the DNR home page, dnr.wi.gov, and look for the advertisement to enter the chat, or search the phrase "ask the experts". You can also join the conversation via our Facebook page at facebook.com/WIDNR and clicking the “Cover it Live Chat” box at the top of our page.

And, don't worry, if your day is just too busy at noon, you can come back at your convenience and read the transcript. You'll find it by going to the DNR home page, dnr.wi.gov, and look for the "Ask the Experts" link under Popular Links.
