Warden Henry Bauman of Madison gave warden presentations to Hunter Education Courses in Oregon, Sun Prairie and Stoughton. Bauman promoted shooting range opportunities at the Dane County Law Enforcement Training Center in Waunakee through conducting media interviews.

Warden Bauman also assisted Walworth County Wardens with investigating a dove hunting accident involving a gunshot victim.

Warden Ryan Ellifson of Jefferson received a call from a stranded boater on the Rock River. The boaters were traveling down river when they ran aground on a sand bar. Warden Ellifson used a department flat bottom mud boat to reach the boat. Warden Ellifson and one of the occupants pulled the boat off the sand bar by hand.

Warden Nathan Kroeplin of Madison gave several presentations, including one on wolf trapping regulations to approximately 20 students, and a trapper education presentation at the Oregon Sportsmen Club to a class of nearly 50 students.

Conservation Warden Boyd Richter of Janesville investigated a DNR Hotline complaint of deer carcasses dumped at the Storrs Lake Public Hunting Grounds near Milton. Warden Richter examined the carcasses and found one buck with the head cut off and one doe with an ear cut off. Warden Richter identified the suspect and made contact with him. The suspect admitted to dumping the doe carcass and agreed to dispose of it properly at the landfill. Citations were issued.

Warden John Buss of Sauk City received a complaint from a local landowner that had observed a pick-up truck shining a spotlight on his fields. The landowner heard two shots and tried to stop the suspects, and obtained license plate information. With the help of the Waunakee Police Department, the suspects were located in Waunakee several days later. Warden Buss asked for Warden Wade Romberg of Adams, to assist in the investigation and three subjects will be charged with multiple counts of shining and shooting deer.

Warden Paul Nadolski of Portage assisted Columbia County Sheriff’s Office with a boat accident on Lake Wisconsin. A subject was wake boarding and in attempt to get up, and broke their leg. Subject was taken by Med-Flight to Madison.

Warden Nadolski continues to take calls of dead deer being found in close proximity to water. Most have died due to EHD (Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease). Columbia County has been identified as an outbreak area for the disease this year.

Warden Paul Nell of Horicon and Retired Warden John Christian presented a 45-year service award to Horicon Hunter Safety Instructor Jack Williams. Williams has taught more than 2,000 students and has been a lead instructor most of those years.
