The Upper Midwest Invasive Species Conference 2012 will take place October 29-31 at the La Crosse Center, 300 Harborview Drive in La Crosse.
The conference will feature more than 140 oral presentations and 46 poster presentations on invasive species management, research, techniques, tools and education issues. More than 500 people are expected to attend.
Addressing both terrestrial and aquatic concerns, the conference will bring together researchers, land and water area managers, private property owners, consultants, students and concerned citizens who are interested in improving invasive species research and management.
Attendees will learn the latest on Asian carp, emerald ash borer and other invasive species threats. Field trips to the scenic Mississippi River and the geological "driftless area" that surrounds La Crosse will provide hands-on opportunities to learn how to detect forest pests.
Attendees can also learn about boat decontamination techniques, or tour the USGS Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center. Workshops will provide practical knowledge about invasive species identification and learning opportunities for professionals, students, and citizen scientists.
There will be representatives from 37 of the nation's leading invasive management and restoration companies, agencies and organizations. Produces and services will be exhibited at the La Crosse Center Arena.
The Wisconsin Invasive Species Council is a co-host. The Wisconsin and Minnesota Departments of Natural Resources are sponsors.
