Youth can learn waterfowl hunting at Mead
WAUSAU - The Mead Wildlife Area and the Wetlands Conservation League will
host a Learn-to-Hunt Waterfowl Program with a clinic on Saturday, Sept. 12,
and a youth hunt on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The program is open to youth ages 12 and older who have completed hunter
safety certification and are interested in learning how to hunt ducks and
geese. The dates and times are as follows:
Hunt Clinic: Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Hunt Day: Youth ages 12 to 15 will hunt on Saturday, Sept. 19. Participants
16 and older will arrange a hunt day and time with their mentor.
The program clinic includes an introduction to waterfowl hunting, an
overview of waterfowl hunting rules and regulations and a look at wildlife
conservation, canoe safety, canoeing, shotgun shooting, shotgun patterning,
duck and goose calling, how to set decoy spreads and waterfowl
identification.
Participants are invited to attend the youth banding day, scheduled for Aug.
29. This is an opportunity to get up close and personal with local birds and
enjoy a morning of banding ducks. In addition, a wing-shooting night with
clay targets will be held on Sept. 17 beginning at 4:30 p.m. for
participants only.
This program is free of charge. Equipment is available for participants who
are also free to bring their own.
