Wolf River sturgeon spawning run update - April 30, 2018
Attention Winnebago System sturgeon enthusiasts:
Our crew worked fish at the Sturgeon Trail in New London today, handling a total of 107 fish. We had 16 females, which is a very good day for females at sites further downriver. The largest fish of the day was 79” in length, with two additional fish larger than 70 inches.
As of this afternoon, there were sturgeon spawning at the Sturgeon Trail in New London, Pfeifer Park on the Embarrass River in New London, and at the Manawa Dam on the Little Wolf River. These locations are all publicly accessible, but the largest number of fish are present at the Sturgeon Trail. There are fish still exhibiting cruising behavior at many sites in the Shiocton and Leeman area, but those fish are not actively spawning yet. Likely fish will start spawning at these locations in the next day or two. For tomorrow, the best bet to see spawning fish will still be the Sturgeon Trail, but I expect activity to pick up at Bamboo Bend as well especially by tomorrow afternoon.
We are committed to service excellence.
