Wisconsin Bat Festival 2014: pre-registration open
It’s almost time for the Wisconsin Bat Festival! October 3-5, 2014 in Milwaukee. The event is FREE (pre-registration is recommended for live bat programs and is now openHERE)!
- Meet the world’s largest bat species, a Malayan flying fox with a six-foot wingspan, as well as fruit bats from Africa and Asia, vampire bats, and Wisconsin’s backyard bats.
- Rob Mies, executive director of the Organization for Bat Conservation will present Bats of the World programs all three days. This is a unique opportunity to come face to face with live bats from around the world!
- Saturday afternoon’s Bat Science Symposium will feature bat and WNS experts from USGS National Wildlife Health Center, US Forest Service, universities, and Wisconsin DNR, along with special guest, rabies survivor Jeanna Giese. Presenters will address a variety of topics, including the latest white-nose syndrome research and the state’s response to the recent arrival of this devastating bat disease.
- Discover the nighttime secrets of bat biology, understand bat conservation needs, and learn how you can become a citizen scientist for the DNR’s Wisconsin Bat Program.
This year’s event will kick off Friday night with live bat programs at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. Saturday’s all-day Festival activities and Bat Science Symposium will be held at the Urban Ecology Center (Riverside Park). The event will conclude Sunday afternoon with a final live bat program at the Zoofari Conference Center (near the Zoo).
