Wetlands Conservation League awards scholarship to UWSP student
STEVENS POINT, WI – The Wetlands Conservation League Inc. of Portage County has announced that Chase Gadbois of Lindstrom, MN, has been selected to receive the 2015 Wetlands Conservation League Inc. Scholarship.
Gadbois is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point majoring in Wildlife Ecology Research and Management. He is active in the UWSP student chapter of The Wildlife Society as a project leader for the chapter’s Ruffed Grouse Project. In summer 2013, he completed an internship with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in Barrow, Alaska, studying the nest success of endangered sea ducks. Gadbois hopes to eventually earn a master’s degree and specialize in waterfowl management.
During the summer, Gadbois has worked for the family business, installing chain link fences. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting (especially duck, deer and turkey), trapping, ice fishing, and collecting maple syrup.
Gadbois’ award is $1,000 and is given to a student in the College of Natural Resources who excels in the classroom, is active in extra-curricular endeavors, and has an appreciation for hunting. This year’s award is made in conjunction with the 32nd Annual Wetlands Conservation League Banquet, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Moose Family Center #1572 in Stevens Point. Tickets for the event are $70 per person, which includes dinner and a membership. More information about the banquet and the Sportsman’s Raffle is available at http://wetlandsconservationleagueinc.com or by calling Duane Greuel at 715-341-2672.
In addition to supporting the scholarship, the banquet also raises funds to help the League obtain, create, conserve and enhance wetlands and associated uplands; encourage conservation of our wetland resources; work with private, local, state, and federal organizations or agencies to promote and develop sound wetland management; provide manpower, education and other support for needed research; and encourage a wetland ethic among the public.
