Discover Wisconsin names La Crosse County, Buffalo, Trempealeau and Black River Falls 2017 Choice Destinations
La Crosse , WI – (May 9, 2017) – Discover Wisconsin, the nation’s longest-running tourism TV show, is shining the spotlight on Buffalo County, La Crosse County, Trempealeau and Black River Falls in an upcoming episode. “Water Trails of the Driftless” premieres Saturday, May 13 at 10 a.m. on Fox Sports Wisconsin and Sunday, May 14 at 5 p.m. on WXOW TV 19. The episode will also be available online after May 14.
The show kicks off in Trempealeau, where host Mariah Haberman gets out on the water with historian and long-time Trempealeau resident, George Richtman, to learn about the small town’s history. Haberman visits the Trempealeau Hotel, which is housed in one of the most unique and iconic buildings located right on the Mississippi River.

The TV crew’s next stop on this water trails tour is La Crosse County. Viewers will get a glimpse at the newly-established water trail through the Upper Mississippi Wildlife Refuge, which includes numerous marked canoe trails for every skill level, as well as the many hiking and biking trails. Haberman refuels at Red Pines Bar & Grill with some walleye, wine and a gorgeous view.
Black River Falls is also featured in the program. The community is home to miles of hiking and water trails, the Black River Falls State Forest, and the endangered Karner Blue Butterfly. Haberman joins in on the city’s Karner Blue Butterfly Festival before taking to the water for some kayaking, and then discovering Wisconsin’s deepest lake, Wazee Lake.
In Buffalo County, Haberman hits the water trails by kayak, visits Farm to Fork Retreat for wood-fired pizza and attempts barrel racing at Loomis Lazy L in Mondovi. The local ATV trails are also highlighted.
“Water Trails of the Driftless” will reach Discover Wisconsin’s broadcast network of 500,000 viewers across the upper Great Lakes region, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Northern Illinois, and Upper Michigan.
