Warden Wire: Warden Blotter - Brown, Door, Kewaunee teams

The Warden Blotter highlights recent cases handled by Wisconsin conservation wardens. Today's edition features cases of raccoons and pesticide use, rough wakes and community outreach and more from the wardens based in Brown, Door and Kewaunee counties.

Warden Cara Kamke of Green Bay investigated a case where a landowner was placing a pesticide on the ground in dishes allegedly to kill raccoons that were invading his garden. Upon investigation, Kamke did find the pesticide, but did not find any sign that animals had been killed from the pesticide. One citation was issued for placing a pesticide contrary to label instructions and cleanup of the pesticide was required.

Warden Andy Lundin of Green Bay has received repeated complaints of excessive waves thrown by wake boarding boats causing damage to property and shorelines. The complaints are generally in narrower and more populated areas of the Fox River in Brown County. Boaters are reminded they are responsible for their wakes and can be cited for damage and injury they cause.

Regional Warden Byron Goetsch of Green Bay joined other National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) instructors to introduce persons attending the Wisconsin State Fair to the sport of archery. Each day hundreds of persons, young and old, had the opportunity to learn firsthand about archery and shoot at targets, many for the first time.

Regional Warden Byron Goetsch of Green Bay assisted other Conservation Wardens at this year’s Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) Kids Camp near East Troy. Warden Goetsch assisted with the archery range, instructing and coaching children of all ages. Among other things, the COPS organization provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of lives of surviving families and affected co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Regional Warden Byron Goetsch of Green Bay represented the law enforcement program at the Fall District Conservation Congress Meetings held in Winneconne (District 7) and Cleveland (District 8). In addition to answering questions of the delegates, a program update was provided to those in attendance. For more information on the Conservation Congress, visit our DNR Website at http://dnr.wi.gov/

Regional Warden Byron Goetsch of Green Bay worked with Marine Warden Jeff Lautenslager of Peshtigo on the Bay of Green Bay Labor Day weekend checking for compliance with the fishing, boating and AIS regulations. Overall the compliance level was very high and anglers were catching some nice walleyes and a few perch.

Warden Kyle Lynch of Kewaunee received a complaint that two individuals were motor trolling on Krohns Lake. Upon investigation of the complaint, Warden Lynch found the two individuals also were fishing without licenses, and one individual had warrants for his arrest. Both individuals were issued citations for fishing without licenses and one was arrested for his warrants.

Warden Kyle Lynch of Kewaunee received a complaint of trash in a DNR parking lot in Kewaunee County. Through investigation, Warden Lynch was able to track down the individual that had deposited the trash. The individual as issued a citation for littering.

Warden Chris Kratcha of Sturgeon Bay issued a citation to a Green Bay area man after he allowed his 11-year-old son to operate an ATV which resulted in the ATV striking a parked truck in the city of Sturgeon Bay.

Warden Chris Kratcha of Sturgeon Bay was deployed to the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee to work the Conservation Warden exhibit for two days. Warden Kratcha answered questions for hundreds of fair-goers, assisted children with completion of activity sheet by teaching them about AIS rules, handed out Warden-badge temporary tattoos, provided regulation information, and researched information for fair-goers.
