Warbler migration ending, waterbirds increase, sparrows put on a show
Bird migrations march on
Migration marches on! Nearly 500 yellow-rumped warblers were tallied in Bayfield County on the 21st, signaling the beginning of the end of the warbler migration. Other neotropical, long-distance migrants are also becoming scarce while short-distance migrants like kinglets, blackbirds, robins, and especially sparrows are increasing.
Waterbird migration is picking up and train your eyes on the skies: Raptor diversity is excellent in late September so look for more of these species.
