Explore La Crosse is excited to announce the Wisconsin Wetlands Association is hosting its 30th annual Wetland Science Conference in La Crosse February 25 – 27. The multi-day conference will focus on the theme, Exploring the Confluence: Pearls of wisdom for wetlands, waters, and communities. This will be the first time since 2014 that this annual conference has been held in La Crosse.
To view the full conference schedule or register to attend, visit https://conference.wisconsinwetlands.org/ Many thanks to our lead conference sponsors, the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin and Stantec.
The three-day conference includes keynote speakers, workshops, working groups, roundtable conversations, a poster session, and field trips to area wetlands. More than 350 people from Wisconsin and neighboring states will attend, including scientists, restoration consultants, regulators, and students.
Wisconsin Wetlands Association is collaborating with Wisconsin Trout Unlimited to bring these two communities together at the conference. To ensure that practitioners in both communities have the information and support they need to collaborate on wetland and stream restoration projects, the collaboration will offer special joint content, including a Restoring Wetland and Stream Systems symposium on Wednesday morning and related working groups and workshops throughout the conference.
Wetlands serve important functions on the landscape. Increasingly, wetlands are being valued as solutions to water problems because they help keep lakes and rivers clean, store floodwaters, and build resilience to more frequent swings of severe weather. They also provide vital habitat for wildlife species: more than 75% of Wisconsin’s wildlife depends on wetlands at some point in their lives.
