Vivian's Story of Hope - Chapter 4

The donors of Aurora Health Care Foundation are committed to transforming care and building stronger, healthier communities.  Behind each donation is a desire to make the world a healthier place.

Today, Vivian is back to her vivacious self and staying busy. If she’s not sharing her story to help better other peoples’ lives, you can find her at a Milwaukee Bucks game, traveling the world or participating in community fundraising events such as Stepping with the Stars.

To hear Vivian’s story in her own words, please see the following video - Best viewed in Chrome or Firefox

So how did this happen to Vivian in the first place? She was healthy and wasn't predisposed to any of the risks for stroke except for being African American. She did not have high blood pressure and took great care of her physical, spiritual and mental health.

The answer came where she least expected it, something she did every day without a second thought, as many women do. The doctor informed her that being prescribed birth control pills over the age of 40 increases one's risk of stroke. Knowing this information has made Vivian dedicated to sharing her story in hopes of preventing this from happening to other women.

"Today, I feel like I'm back to my old self. My brain is back to normal due to the swift medical attention I was provided. I cannot say enough about the people at the Girl Scouts breakfast who acted quickly and all the caregivers who worked on me at Aurora Sinai Medical Center, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center and Aurora West Allis Medical Center,” she shared.

“It's because of them that I am here and able to share my story," Vivian stated proudly.
