Upcoming events at Sandhill Wildlife Area

The schedule for fall events is as follows - registration and fees can be
sent to Sandhill OSC, PO Box 156, Babcock, Wis. 54413:

*  Crane Watch, Saturday, Oct. 17, 3 p.m. - Watch and listen as
thousands of cranes descend on Sandhill's Gallagher Marsh, a key staging
area during the fall migration. Participants should dress for cold weather
in neutral colors (camouflage preferred). This event will be held rain or
shine, and scopes, binoculars and cameras are welcome. Registration for each
participant is $15 and is due Oct. 9 (limit 20 people).

*  Grill, Baby Grill, Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Explore
preparation methods for wild game and fish using marinades, heart-healthy
seasonings and basting sauces. This session will include a review of
suggested cooking techniques and a number of recipes. Possible meats may
include venison, goose, bison, wild turkey and fish - samples will be
provided. Registration for each participant is $10 and is due Nov. 6.

* Volunteer Carnivore Track-Training & Refresher Clinic, Saturday,
Dec. 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m - This training clinic is mandatory for individuals
seriously interested in contributing volunteer time (three surveys per
winter) to assist with the DNR annual winter wolf census. Not to be confused
with educational workshops, this is for people willing to commit to multiple
winter surveys. Registration for each participant is $15 and is due Dec. 1
(limit 30 people).
