Tourism’s Office of Outdoor Recreation Launches Outdoor Business Directory, Website for the Industry
MADISON, Wis. (April 29, 2021) – The Department of Tourism’s Office of Outdoor Recreation launched the first Outdoor Business Directory for Wisconsin’s outdoor recreation industry. The directory is hosted on the Office’s new website and aims to connect outdoor recreation-related businesses, manufacturers, organizations, agencies and entities in the state.
The Outdoor Business Directory includes several hundred businesses and organizations showing the size and diversity of Wisconsin’s outdoor recreation industry that contributes $7.8 million to the state’s economy. From ATV clubs to bike retailers to fishing guides to major manufacturers, the directory is encompassing of businesses and organizations that have a presence in Wisconsin and are directly related to the outdoor industry.
“As the leading reason people chose to visit our state, outdoor recreation is a critical contributor to tourism’s success in Wisconsin, and we’re committed to strengthening the industry through the Office of Outdoor Recreation,” said Acting Secretary Anne Sayers.
The Office is encouraging businesses and organizations to view the directory to help complete any missing information or to submit a request to be added. “The directory will become even more useful as outdoor businesses and organizations participate and add their information to grow the list,” added Monroe Brown.
In addition to the Outdoor Business Directory, the new Office of Outdoor Recreation website includes resources, tools, and ways to engage. A Research Library contains a robust list of reports and studies in Wisconsin and nationally on the impacts of outdoor recreation. The website also includes the recordings of past educational webinars as well as the Office’s popular Outdoors COVID-19 Toolkits published in partnership with the Department of Health Services and the Department of Natural Resources last spring and this past winter. Visitors to the website can also find past newsletters and ways to contact the staff.
