Spring prescribed burns proposed for southern Wisconsin
MADISON -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is planning to
conduct prescribed burning on a number of DNR properties in southern
Wisconsin this spring if appropriate weather conditions exist.
A list of proposed prescribed burns in southern
Wisconsin<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/wildlifehabitat/documents/burns/SOD.pdf>
and more information can be found at dnr.wi.gov, keywords "prescribed
burn<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/WildlifeHabitat/burn.html>."
Prescribed burns are safely conducted by trained prescribed fire specialists
to increase forest health, restore habitat, help control invasive species
and reduce fuel. The window for conducting prescribed burns is relatively
small, due to special weather conditions required for completion.
The moisture level of groundcover, wind speed and direction, and relative
humidity must be just right for a safe and successful burn. Burns are
rescheduled if weather conditions are unfavorable.
