Southwest Wisconsin CWD, Deer and Predator Study and Chronic Wasting Disease Response Plan

Call-in information for Wednesday, Feb. 28 conference line: 855-947-8255
(passcode: 9760505)

MADISON - Preliminary research findings from year one of the Southwest
Wisconsin CWD, Deer and Predator Study will be presented to the Natural
Resources Board and made available to the public Wednesday, Feb. 28. Media
availability has been set for 3 p.m. for inquiries regarding these data.

The Southwest Wisconsin CWD, Deer and Predator Study, which stems from the
Governor's Initiative on Chronic Wasting Disease, is the largest and most
comprehensive deer research project ever undertaken in Wisconsin.

In addition to study updates, information regarding the Chronic Wasting
Disease Response Plan five-year review and current CWD surveillance efforts
and sampling for 2017 will be presented to the board.

The Chronic Wasting Disease Response Plan five-year review was conducted in
2016-17 as a joint effort sponsored by the Department, the Wisconsin
Conservation Congress and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and
Consumer Protection. A stakeholder-based CWD Response Plan Review Committee
identified and updated action items in the response plan to inform the next
five years of CWD response and management.

Dr. Daniel Storm, DNR deer and elk research scientist, and Tami Ryan, DNR
Wildlife Health Section Chief, will be available to answer media inquiries
at 3 p.m. in room 413, GEF2 building, 101 S. Webster St. and via conference
call at 855-947-8255 (Passcode: 9760505). Storm and Ryan will field
questions through 4 p.m. regarding preliminary study findings and CWD
Response Plan updates. Those unable to attend or call in to this planned
session can contact Storm and Ryan at the contact information listed above
following the conference call.
