Saying "See You Soon" To The 135th
Over the weekend in West Bend, scores of friends, family and neighbors wished well to the 31 departing troops from the 2nd Battalion, 135th Aviation Regiment.
The helicopter/medical evacuation unit will be heading to Kuwait for a 1-year tour of duty. While any soldier leaving to serve abroad is cause for prayer, these brave men and women, especially, need you to keep them close in thought; they are the lifesavers of the countless other troops fighting in the Middle East. They fly the huge Blackhawk helicopters to rescue the injured so they can be treated in the air and flown quickly to safety.
Frontline troops can rest assured in the training and expertise of our brave Wisconsinites coming to their aid this week!
I was especially moved when the Adjutant General of Wisconsin, my friend Don Dunbar, brought to the front of the audience two expectant moms whose husbands were departing. It really reiterated the sacrifices our soldiers' families make. But the sweetest moment of the day was when a soldier, Robert, proposed to his girlfriend, Megan, in front of the Blackhawk after the departure ceremony. They were beaming!
