Hybrid Event With In-Person And Remote Presentations To Celebrate Eagles' Comeback And See Them In The Wild

The 35th annual Bald Eagle Watching Days are set for Jan. 15-16, 2022, in the Sauk Prairie area and will feature a hybrid event with some in-person opportunities and some virtual pre-recorded and live segments.

The event highlights the comeback of bald eagles in their congregating area along the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway beneath the Prairie du Sac dam. 

The Overlook on Water Street in Prairie du Sac will be staffed with volunteers on Saturday and Sunday to assist with eagle viewing. Additionally, Saturday offers both virtual and live presentations (conditions permitting) at the River Arts Center in Sauk Prairie. You can also explore some of the area’s other eagle watching sites on your own by downloading two self-guided tours to your mobile device. The council co-sponsors the event with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Sauk Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce and Tripp Heritage Museum.

Bald Eagle Watching Days, Jan. 15-16, 2022, Schedule Of Events

Saturday, Jan. 15

  • The overlook on Water Street will be staffed with volunteers from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • The Tripp Heritage Museum will be open to the public and showing pre-filmed presentations on the large screen throughout the day: Old Abe, Civil War Eagle and The Bad Eagle in Native American Culture. The museum is located at 565 Water St. in Prairie du Sac.
  • All other presentations will be shown at the River Arts Center, 105 9th St., Prairie Du Sac, WI 53578
    • 10 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. – Schlitz Audubon Nature Center live raptor show will be presented in person, followed by Q&A
    • 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – David Stokes’ Laughing with the Animals, followed by Q&A
    • 1:30 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. – a pre-recorded Bald Eagle release featuring Marge Gibson of Raptor Education Group Inc. After the eagle release concludes, Gibson will join the participants at the River Arts Center via Zoom to talk about rehabilitation work and answer questions.
    • 3 p.m.– 4:15 p.m. – Schlitz Audubon Nature Center live raptor show, followed by Q&A

All presentations will also be livestreamed on Ferry Bluff Eagle Council’s YouTube Channel. The link will be available on the Ferry Bluff Eagle Council website
