Richland County Fishing Report for April 21, 2015

By Wayne Morgenthaler

We had enough rain to bring streams up to almost normal levels.  Catch and release is still in effect, so return the trout back into the creeks as quick as possible.  Spin casting or fly casting has had good success.  I prefer spinners in the small sizes.  Gold or silver Panther Martins work the best on small streams.  The bigger spinners in green and yellow are successful on the bigger streams.  The backwaters are a fantastic place to go now.

The migration of birds is unbelievable and the sounds of birds echo through the waters.  When the next warming system comes through be ready for some excellent panfish action.  The bluegills will be in the shallow waters during late afternoon and crappies should be around beaver houses.  If you are targeting sunfish, try a small hook with an angleworm, no sinker, and small bobber.  The top water fishing is good for bluegills using the fly rod with a rubber spider.  Crappies will be hitting on mini mites in pink and white.  Check with local bait stores for the up to date reports.
