Rib Mountain State Park muzzleloader and archery only Nov. 22-Dec. 10

WAUSAU, Wis. - Hunters planning to deer hunt at Rib Mountain State Park during the regular nine day season or 10-day muzzleloader season are limited to muzzleloader rifles or archery or crossbow equipment in those areas of the park open to hunting.
Rib Mountain State Park previously had a 19-day muzzleloader season prior to rule changes in 2013 that opened state park properties to hunting and trapping. The State Natural Resources Board subsequently affirmed that when they approved hunting in state parks from Nov. 15-Dec. 15 that they did not eliminate the existing hunting seasons that had previously been established under administrative rules.
Rib Mountain State Park has two separate areas open to hunting and trapping. The entire area on the north side of the park that is leased to Granite Peak Ski Area is closed to hunting and trapping in the fall. The area of the park located within the Town of Rib Mountain is limited to archery only, except for the 19 days open to muzzleloader season. The most western section of the park in the Town of Marathon is open to muzzleloader and archery only during the regular nine-day and 10-day muzzleloader seasons. Hunters may use legal firearms in this area to hunt small game and during the four-day antlerless deer hunt Dec. 11-14.
Hunting is not allowed in the public use areas of the park such as picnic areas, lookout tower and certain designated park trails. Maps of open and closed areas are posted at the park and are available on the DNR website, dnr.wi.gov<http://dnr.wi.gov/>, by searching keywords "hunting state parks<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/hunt/>" and clicking on the link for Rib Mountain State Park Hunting and Trapping map [PDF]<http://dnr.wi.gov/files/PDF/pubs/pr/PR2210.pdf>.
