Public comment period for Mud Lake boardwalk and boat storage area recommendations open through April 12
MADISON - In December 2015, a stakeholder team was formed to provide the
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources with recommendations regarding the
proposed route for a rustic boardwalk and a boat storage area near Mud Lake
in the Cedarburg Bog State Natural
Area<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/lands/naturalareas/index.asp?sna=2> - these
recommendations are now available for review and public comment through
April 12, 2016.
To review proposed recommendations, visit dnr.wi.gov<http://dnr.wi.gov/>,
search keywords "master
planning<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/lands/masterplanning/>," and select
"Northern Kettle Moraine wildlife, fish and natural
areas<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/Lands/MasterPlanning/NorthernKettles/>."
Recommendations include the development of an approximately 600-foot wooden
boardwalk to a small bay on the south side of Mud Lake. Near the terminus
of the boardwalk, a boat storage area that could accommodate approximately
15 small watercraft would be provided during the waterfowl hunting season.
The stakeholder team included individuals from local and state hunting
groups, Wisconsin Conservation Congress, birding groups, Friends of the
Cedarburg Bog, UW-Milwaukee Field Station and Wisconsin Department of
Natural Resources staff. Final recommendations were forwarded to the
department in January 2016 - these recommendations have been reviewed and
approved by the department for inclusion in the master plan.
The rustic boardwalk and boat storage area is intended to provide access
that will protect wetland vegetation and meet the boat storage needs of
waterfowl hunters. The boardwalk will also provide access for a variety of
users from spring through fall seasons.
Public comments regarding the stakeholder team's boardwalk and boat storage
recommendations can be sent via email to
