Outdoor Report: Trail Conditions And Wisco Sled Divas
Have you heard about the Wisco Sled Divas? On the latest episode of the DNR’s Wild Wisconsin – Off the Record podcast, we spoke with Wisconsin snowmobilers Erica Marten and Jen Marcott-Bong, who founded this female-focused Facebook Group that connects women who love to ride.
Tune in to hear Erica and Jen share some of their best tips, tricks and snowmobiling stories – including what to pack, favorite trails and how you can make the most of your next ride.
Since safety is an important part of the ride, the Wisconsin DNR reminds all snowmobilers to think smart before they start by following these tips.
Early Inland Trout Season:
Through April 30
Early inland trout season on select waters began on Jan. 2 and runs through April 30. Remember that this season is catch-and-release only.
If you are fishing inland lakes and ponds prior to the 2021 fishing opener, be sure to use the regulations in the Guide to Wisconsin Trout Fishing Regulations.

Winter Air: What Happens When The Atmosphere Flips?
Did you know the atmosphere can “flip"? The atmospheric condition, called inversion, occurs naturally, most often during the winter months when a layer of warm air acts as a lid and traps a layer of cold air close to the ground.
Inversions typically develop under high pressure during the overnight hours, when calm winds and clear skies allow air near the Earth’s surface to readily cool, but the warmer air above does not. What results is a relatively thin layer of air that warms with altitude, leading to cool and more dense air near the ground being trapped by the warm and less dense air above it.
The DNR’s Air Program closely monitors these events, which can result in air quality advisories due to the elevated levels of particle pollution trapped near the ground.
Stay up to date on the air quality in your area by viewing the Air Program’s interactive air quality maps and forecasts.
