OnTarget Range and Tactical Training Center is Second Illinois Facility to Earn NSSF Five-Star Rating

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the firearms industry trade association, is pleased to announce that it has awarded OnTarget Range and Tactical Training Center its highly respected Five-Star range approval rating.

“When we awarded OnTarget our full five-star rating under our previous evaluation program, we knew great things were in store for it,” explained Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Shooting Range Services. “The company has exceeded our expectations in follow-through and meeting the much tougher criteria of the redesigned range rating program last year, and it is with great pleasure that we award them our highest rating today.”

A variable range fee system, with discounts for range members and daily specials, offers affordable options for both avid and infrequent shooters, as well as the many outdoor-oriented sportsmen visitors to Crystal Lake and the lower Lake Michigan area. A jam-packed calendar of events such as IDPA league matches, first aid instruction, a rifle course just for teens and couple’s shoots, among others, ensure fresh and new experiences for the store’s thriving customer base. A fully stocked retail store, in-house VirTra V100 virtual handgun training simulator, well-trained staff and gunsmithing services make this facility a one-stop shop for many in the area.

Managing Partners Bo Strom and Judy Claxton have been focused on customer safety, comfort and service from the outset.

“Walking into a gun shop or range for the first time can be a very intimidating experience, especially for women. We have worked hard to create an atmosphere where everyone, regardless of expertise, feels respected, has his or her questions answered and is ultimately able to handle a firearm competently and safely, as well as make an informed decision about purchasing a personal firearm,” said Claxton.

NSSF’s highly respected Star-Rating Range Program works to encourage ranges of all sizes and locations to excel. Applying for rating requires answering a comprehensive questionnaire and business owner self-evaluation of the facilities, staff, community outreach and other criteria. Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF member ranges that meet a Three-star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings.
