More fall programs at Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center

HORICON, Wis. -- The public is invited to join champion duck and goose callers Troy Maaser and Mark Kakatsch to learn how to become a better waterfowl caller in no time on Oct. 13, from 6:30-8 p.m.

“Fall duck and goose hunting seasons are upon us and there is no better time to practice your calling skills,” said Liz Herzmann, Department of Natural Resources wildlife educator. “Bring your own goose or duck calls for a hands-on learning experience.

“Duck and goose calling are impressive skills that require patience and practice. With Troy and Mark’s expert advice you may have a more successful waterfowl hunting season.”

Crane Watch and Movies at the Marsh

The public is invited to join DNR educators and members of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club at the Palmatory Street overlook on Oct. 18, from 5-7 p.m. for an informative talk on the birds you will see flying overhead. The overlook is located on North Palmatory Street, Horicon.

Dusk is an active time of day for many of the species found on the marsh at this time of year as they congregate and move from daytime areas to nighttime roosting areas.

“Cranes and other migrating waterfowl can provide a beautiful evening show and what better time to enjoy it then at sunset with family and friends,” says Liz Herzmann. “Sunset is just after 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 and the Palmatory Street overlook is a great location for the family to enjoy a picnic dinner and the beautiful view of migrating birds.”

See your favorite movies on the big screen.

After the Crane Watch, head over to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center as the “Movies at the Marsh” series continues with a screening of We Bought a Zoo. All movies are family friendly (rated G or PG). Refreshments are available. Showtime is 6:30 p.m.

All programs are free and open to the public, no registration is necessary.

The Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center is located at N7725 state Highway 28, between the towns of Horicon and Mayville. Please use the lower entrance for Movies at the Marsh.
