May 13 workshop in Ashland will highlight methods for protecting livestock

ASHLAND, Wis. -- Farmers and ranchers can learn about non-lethal methods to use as part of an integrated plan to protect livestock and find out more about state and federal damage compensation programs at a livestock damage abatement and integrated predator management workshop.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services Program, will host the workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland.

Presentations from wildlife researchers, natural resource managers, livestock producers and other experts will discuss the importance of non-lethal predator damage management through topics including:
· development and field use of non-lethal tools for predator management;
· bear and wolf populations and management;
· guarding dog research; and
· animal husbandry practices.
