Maple Education Program Volunteers Wanted
It’s that time of year again! It’s mid-January… and here at the MacKenzie Center we’re already thinking about spring and maple sugaring season! Each year we welcome over 1,200 participants to the Maple Education program and owe that success to dedicated volunteers who have contributed thousands of hours to teach and bring this program to life. Have you ever wanted to learn how to collect and cook sap and finish it into syrup? This year is your chance! We need volunteers in stationed positions as well as guides. Help is needed for all maple positions! No previous experience is necessary. We are interested to see if you would like to volunteer for our maple education program this spring. Maple education program dates for 2017 are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the entire month of March with morning and afternoon shifts. Please email us at DNRMacKenzieCenter@wisconsin.gov or call us at (608) 635.8112 if you are interested in volunteering. If you know of anyone who might be interested in volunteering to be a maple guide, interpreter, syrup maker or finisher, please feel free to forward them this information. If you're interested, mark these maple education training dates on your calendar. Training Day #1 Tuesday, February 21st - 9:00am-12:00pm; MacKenzie LODGE building ALL maple education volunteers new and seasoned are invited! Goals and objectives of the maple program, specific training for returning & new volunteers, and logistics of the maple program will be covered this day.
Training Day #2 Wednesday, February 22nd - 9:00am-12:00pm; MacKenzie LODGE building ALL maple education volunteers new and seasoned are invited! Strategies for successful field trips and a special time for the “behind the scenes” tasks needed in the sugar bush.
