Looking for fun ideas for spring break? Head to Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center

HORICON, Wis. - Head to the Horicon Marsh Explorium this spring and learn
more about the marsh's history, hunters (and the hunted), and enjoy a scenic
hike.

Visitors to the marsh this spring will have a unique opportunity to travel
through time and explore exciting new features on display at the Horicon
Marsh Education and Visitor Center. Long before Horicon Marsh achieved
international status as an important bird and wildlife area and a
destination for outdoor recreation, glaciers carved a basin where a wetland
would one day form. Horicon Marsh's Explorium provides a glimpse of life at
the marsh thousands of years before European settlement.

[The Horicon Marsh Explorium is a great place to learn more about Horicon
Marsh's storied history.]"The Explorium gives visitors of all ages an
opportunity to look, listen, touch and even smell some of the changes the
marsh has experienced," said Liz Herzmann Wisconsin Department of Natural
Resources wildlife educator. "We think young visitors will especially enjoy
some of the special touches including the fresh 'mammoth' scent and airboat
simulator. After your Explorium experience, be sure to go out and enjoy
nearly five miles of hiking trails at the education center."

Videos and interactive displays greet guests at every turn, encouraging
audiences of any age to learn more about the history and ecology of Horicon
Marsh. A wooly mammoth replica represents wildlife that roamed the earth
during the Ice Age and also served as an important food source for early
Native Americans.

Relics from the age of European settlement, as well as modern hunting and
trapping equipment, illustrate the marsh's popularity as a waterfowl hunting
site. Interactive games encourage visitors to learn about wildlife
identification and gain a thrilling perspective of the management and
conservation activities currently occurring on the marsh. These exhibits are
just a taste of the many wildlife-related themes found within the new
Explorium.

The education center and Explorium are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor
Center will be closed Sunday, March 27 for the Easter holiday.
