Lake Superior Fishing Agreement
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will be holding a meeting today to discuss the recently signed Lake Superior Fishing Agreement.
The meeting will be held at the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (room 306), 2100 Beaser Avenue, Ashland, WI on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Red Cliff and Bad River Bands of Lake Superior Chippewa have been working collaboratively since 2014 on a new Lake Superior Fishing Agreement that respects the interests of all parties while jointly protecting and enhancing the shared fishery of Lake Superior for all user groups. The DNR, Red Cliff, and Bad River Bands have come to an agreement that is biologically sound and considers the importance of the fishery to the local economy.
Throughout the negotiations, the DNR carefully considered the interests of all stakeholders and worked diligently to achieve a result that balanced the priorities of the negotiating parties and the individual stakeholder groups. The new agreement achieves an equitable result that protects and enhances the resource. This meeting is an opportunity to for DNR staff to explain and discuss the new agreement.
