Join DNR staff for Horicon Marsh Owl Prowl Jan. 30
HORICON, Wis. - Winter is a great time to search for different owl species -
join the Horicon Marsh Bird Club and Department of Natural Resources
wildlife educators for an Owl Prowl Jan. 30.
This co-sponsored event is a two-part trip - participants will join members
of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club at 3 p.m. at the Horicon Marsh Education and
Visitor Center and search for owls in the marsh area. At 6:30 p.m., Liz
Herzmann, DNR wildlife educator, will give a short presentation in the
education center regarding owls and lead a hike to Indermuehle Island to
call for owls.
"At the talk, DNR staff will provide various owl parts for you to look at
and examine owl pellets in order to learn more about an owl's diet," said
Herzmann. "Join for one or both parts of the program - it will be a HOOT!"
Participants are invited to bring a picnic dinner to eat at the education
center between programs. The guided hike will be roughly 1.5 miles, and will
include walking in the dark.
Registration is not required, but feel free to contact the Horicon Marsh
Education and Visitor Center at 920-387-7893 to let staff know how many
people will accompany each group. The program is free to the public and all
ages are welcome. Remember to arrive early and check out the Horicon Marsh
