International Migratory Bird Day Celebration
Saturday, May 12 • 8:00 – 10:30 a.m. • Engel Conservation Area
Come celebrate International Migratory Bird Day and Muskego’s recognition as a Bird City, Wisconsin at Big Muskego Lake State Wildlife Area! May is peak migration time in this area and provides an outstanding opportunity to see several dozen species of birds in one day. International Migratory Bird Day brings awareness to approximately 350 species that travel from their wintering grounds in South and Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, and the southern U.S. to more northerly reaches of North America. Both experienced birders and beginners will enjoy observing birds as we hike trails through woodland, prairie, and wetland habitats.
- Free of charge.
- Coffee, juice, milk and donuts available at 8:30 a.m.
- Wear footwear to hike trails in possible wet conditions.
- Please bring binoculars, camera, & bird field guide if you have them.
- Call 262-679-5617 for more information.
Eagle young have hatched! At least two eaglets.
Ospreys are nesting on platform near eagle platform.
Thousands of migrating birds use the lake/marsh as a stopover.
A small flock of American Avocets were swimming in the bay near the nesting eagles and ospreys on Sunday. This is a very rare bird siting for this area.
