Horicon Marsh in November: Cooking Wild Game

http://dnr.wi.gov/news/releases/article/?id=4111

HORICON, Wis. - November is here and the birds are still migrating through the marsh. What better time to come and experience amazing fall migrations and some great family-friendly programs.

November events feature some opportunities to learn about and taste some new recipes for your wild game and stories for our young adventurers. And, be sure to save some time during each visit to check out theHoricon Marsh Education and Visitor Center's new Explorium (admission fees can be found online).

Thursday, Nov. 10, 10-11 a.m. - Stories at the Marsh

Join a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources educator for an "Oh Deer" themed storytelling and craft-making session at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. This event is best for children ages 1-10 years old.

November 12, 10 a.m. to noon. - Cooking Wild Game Workshop- Venison

Prepare for the upcoming gun deer season with some new mouthwatering recipes and ways to cook your venison. Join John Motoviloff, author of Wild Rice Goose and Other Dishes of the Upper Midwest, and learn more about how to cook wild game - specifically venison. After an hour-long presentation, participants will have the opportunity to taste some of the delicious meals and ask the author questions. Venison chili and venison sauerbraten will be on the menu! Motoviloff works with the DNR's shooting sports program, and in his spare time, he is an outdoor writer, chef and avid sportsman. He has appeared on Dan Small's Deer Hunt Wisconsin and holds cooking seminars at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sporting Goods Show, Janesville Public Library, Whole Foods, and Wine and Dine Wisconsin.

"I love to talk to Wisconsin's hunters and anglers about how they cook their catch," said Motoviloff. "I often pick up a cooking tip or two-and always have a great time!"

This program is free and open to the public, and no advance registration is required.

The Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center is located between Horicon and Mayville on HWY 28. For a detailed list of all Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center special events, please visit the Friends of Horicon Marsh website at www.horiconmarsh.org [EXIT DNR].
