Holiday Wreath Laying to Honor Veterans
Ceremonies at All Three State Veterans Memorial Cemeteries
MADISON - Wisconsin State Veterans Memorial Cemeteries at King, Spooner and Union Grove will host Wreaths Across America, a holiday ceremony to honor and remember our nation’s veteran’s by decorating graves on Saturday, December 17, 2016. The ceremonies will be held simultaneously as part of a national initiative to place wreaths on veterans’ graves.
At the cemetery at King, at 10:00 a.m. the District 8 American Legion Riders and the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King will coordinate placement of over 6700 wreaths followed by ceremonial program at the cemetery pavilion beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Programs at Spooner and Union Grove cemeteries will begin at 11:00 a.m. coordinated by the Civil Air Patrol. These ceremonies will honor veterans of each branch of military service, the Merchant Marines and Prisoners of War as well as those still Missing in Action. The programs will take place outdoors on the cemetery grounds. The ceremonies will be brief and then donated wreaths will be placed on the grave sites.
In 2015, the Worcester Wreath Company, through the campaign Wreaths Across America and their national network laid more than 901,000 wreaths at 1,108 locations in all 50 states and overseas.
